Form & Function
EXPRESSION OF TRUTH AND BEAUTY

One of the most important relationships in the world of architecture would be form and function. Ultimately, the shape and appearance of a structure may transform depending on the required needs of the project. With the use of a moving component we transformed an already existing bridge to create a new structure with a new developed form and function.

Movement Analogy
The movement of these objects is intended to act as the means for opening the roadbed for boats or other water traffic to pass. They must be incorporated into the prototype designs to provide a 30'x40' gap in the span of the bridge.

PRELIMINARY DESIGN

To accommodate the movement of the vice grip I added a longer tower to hold the vice grip so it can be structurally secure. I also added a track bed with a roller to help with the movement of the vice grip.

The new additions will help to allow the 30x40 opening within the movement of the vice grip mechanism.

As you can see form follows function as it should be for the new structure/movement, the remaining parts of the design transformed based on it.
